Let's Talk...Steps

Let’s talk about steps! It’s so important to stay active, but this looks different for all types of people. Even if you’re not an avid exerciser you can still move your body. I tell all my patients their goal is to get 10000 steps a day from a health standpoint, but what if that’s even reaching for the stars?

What I recommend as a very first step is to go outside (or on a treadmill) and walk for 30 minutes. Do this as much as you can throughout the week. It doesn’t matter the distance in the beginning. Just walk. As time goes on you’ll realize you can go further and quicker in the same amount of time. You’ll feel better, and your body will thank you! Added bonus; if you’re outside you’ll get that extra dose of serotonin for a mood boost!

As an aside, you don’t need to go out and buy a fancy fitness tracker. Most phones have a pedometer built in them. Also, you can find super cheap pedometers in most stores or on Amazon.

Having a means to track helps keep you motivated and honest when monitoring those steps!
